I have been playing the waiting game for awhile now...
It is a little frustrating, two other people have left (so the total is now 5 from work down there) and I'm left up here - with the guy I was suppose to go with, and we are both excited & waiting to go. It is kind of hard to plan anything when you never know when you are going. (They said to "leave my cell phone on" this weekend *again*) You can only keep your bag packed for so long.

The silver lining is that I'm getting to see spring at my house. Several off the bushes are blooming in the yard, I saw a humming bird at my bird feeders the other day, a few seeds I planted outside are coming up, it is fun.
At the very least, this
is a temporary re-start of the blog to let
everyone know what I'm doing down in Mobile, Alabama. Yes I'm
heading out from our "new" cozy little Rhode Island house to save the
world... I'm telling my parents I'm be deployed -
oceanography style :-D

So to catch you up on what is happening: I'm going to be heading down
to AL, for work, to help organize samples from several cruises
collected
in the Gulf. We are trying to help assess damages from the
big spill. I'm not going to be on a boat this time, but I'm
going to be "on the ground" organizing what comes in from several
boats. I have a feeling it will involved a giant-new type of
metadata that involves a chain of ownership along with what usual
what/when/where/how you normally see.

Currently I'm in a state of alert, but they don't think I'm going down
until Wednesday (5/12) at this point. I'm really excited to
go help out with such a big and important project. At
work it really is "all hands on deck" so to speak, and 3 people from
the office are already on boats collecting samples in the Gulf.
At least 2 more of us are going, so lots of other projects
are being put on hold. I am amused though,I'm
being pulled off the Block Island wind project to go help with an oil
spill. We were TRYING to go in the right direction... :-)
